Welcome!

Welcome to SOCAN’s sync licensing request form.

SOCAN’s sync licensing form allows you to submit requests for the use of specific musical works (lyrics and musical composition) in multi-media projects (TV, film, ads, podcast, etc.).

A sync license is negotiated with the publisher or rightsholder in a case-by-case manner.

SOCAN is able to assist with administering licensing requests for works we represent. For works not represented by SOCAN, you will need to submit a request directly to the rightsholder(s).

Note: In addition to a sync license, a master license is required when the original sound recording is used (as opposed to a cover, or acapella). This license is typically obtained from the record label or the owner of the master recording.

Note: Sync licenses apply to specific songs and are always negotiated on a case-by-case basis. SOCAN only issues licenses after securing approval from its publisher or self-published writer members.

Before Getting Started

Gather the below details:

  • Contact information for the person submitting the request;
  • Contact information for the production company
  • Project details: title, genre, budget, martket, territory for license and music duration.
  • The list of musical works you wish to license. You can search our repertoire  to identify the compositions you would like to license.
  • If you are unable to find a work you would like to use, ensure you have detailed information including: all songwriters, publishers, title, performer and how you plan to use the song.

Accurate project information is critical for determining the licensing fee.
