Member portal

Online Music, Including Digital Streaming, Webcasting and Limited Downloads

The reproduction of musical works by any type of online music services, including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, Tidal and more.)

Radio Broadcast Mechanical, Satellite Radio, Background Music and Pay Audio Services

The reproduction of musical works made by Radio Broadcasters (including satellite Radio stations). Selecting this option also includes the administration of Background Music services and Pay Audio services.

Audio-Visual (Av) Post-Synchronization
+

Post-sync royalties are in addition to your sync royalties and existing AV Performing Right royalties. Post-Sync includes any copies of musical works embedded in AV content used to facilitate its broadcast or streaming. This right is broken down into four specific markets:

Traditional: Specifically covers reproductions occurring in Commercial TV and Cable, satellite, and fibre TV. SOCAN has agreements in place with most Canadian French language TV stations and agreements are currently being negotiated with broadcasters across Canada.

Digital: Specifically covers reproductions occurring in VOD (Video-on-demand) like Netflix, Crave, Illico, Apple TV+, and Amazon Video.

Social: Includes reproductions occurring specifically on Social Networks.

YouTube: Includes reproductions occurring on YouTube, for either their on-demand services or user generated content services.

Private Copy

Private copying via the Canadian Private Copying Collective. A “private copy” is a copy of a sound recording, or a substantial part of a musical work, of recorded music that is made by an individual for his or her own personal use.

Ministry Of Education
+

SOCAN Reproduction Rights has a direct agreement with the Quebec Ministry of Education that authorizes the reproduction of musical works made by preschools, as well as elementary and secondary educational institutions. The agreement authorizes the reproduction of musical works for the purpose of educational services and extracurricular activities only.

Permanent Audio Downloads

SOCAN Reproduction Rights can issue individual licenses to users who want to reproduce, in whole or in part, a musical work distributed via permanent digital download, for private use and/or sale.

Physical Mechanicals Licensing

SOCAN Reproduction Rights issues individual licenses to users who want to reproduce, in whole or in part, a musical work distributed via physical media (including CD, vinyl, USB stick and others), for private use and/or sale.

Sync Administration
+

SOCAN’s sync administration service is a non-exclusive offer, where SOCAN issues sync licenses on your behalf, only after having secured your approval. We ensure all royalties are collected and properly distributed once the license is issued to the user. SOCAN sync licenses include a reserve clause facilitating the licensing and collection of post-synchronization royalties via agreements that SOCAN already has with traditional broadcasters, digital platforms and social media.

Online Lyrics

SOCAN Reproduction Rights has agreements with online lyrics services, (ie. LyricFind and Replica), to license and collect royalties for the reproduction of lyrics.

Karaoke
+

SOCAN negotiates agreements with Karaoke services and platforms. These agreements include the reproduction of musical works via their platforms, and the reproduction of the lyrics. As this offering is non-exclusive, our agreements can be on a work-by-work basis or a blanket license for all works we represent for this type of service.

Synchronization Administration

Our decades of experience in licensing music for audio-visual use, combined with trusted relationships with music supervisors, film producers, and rights clearance agencies worldwide. We know the market, we know the players, and we know how to maximize your earnings.

Our sync license, vetted by you, will also allow SOCAN to collect your Audio-Visual (AV) Post-Sync reproduction license fees from broadcasters and digital platforms. When completing your reproduction rights agreement simply select audio-visual post-sync in addition to sync to maximize your royalties.

The SOCAN commission rate for sync licenses is 10% of the negotiated license fee.

Sync rights is offered as a non-exclusive opt-in option within SOCAN’s Reproduction Rights services. Simply check the synchronization administration box when signing up for reproduction rights.
