INCLUSION & ANTI-RACISM

Cultivating a workplace where every voice matters.

We’ve made a strong commitment to inclusion and community, and we’re working together to improve our organizational culture.

By tapping even further into both operational and creative talent in Canada’s sovereignty and equity-seeking communities, we will become a more inclusive and equitable workplace. Our work is ongoing and never-ending, as we strive to learn, improve, and be better.

This page describes our commitment and progress towards diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism in our workplace.

STRIVING FOR EQUALITY

Our goal is to create a workplace and environment that is equitable, diverse, and inclusive, where everyone can be themselves and do their best work.

Our key priorities include:

Remove Barriers and Bias

We’re committed to sustaining diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism in our workforce, governance, and services to members and stakeholders.

Foster Belonging

We aim to build trust, ensure safety and inclusive decision-making, and celebrate our community.

Champion Growth

It’s essential for employees to have equitable access to professional and career development, and for SOCAN, as a collective of employees, to better understand and respect one another and those we serve by developing the mindset, skills and tools necessary for us to realize our goals for an inclusive culture.

Amplify Voices

We are dedicated to deepening our relationship with diverse communities, including those that are under-represented and marginalized.

Our Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism Efforts: 2020 to 2024

Since 2020, we’ve embarked on a journey to implement our Framework for Change. Our commitment to the BRDRB Declaration and the establishment of an employee-driven Equity Task Force have been central in driving change and holding us accountable for our diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism work.

We‘ve reviewed and developed diversity and inclusion policies, with significant input from our employees. A comprehensive workforce census was conducted to assess staff composition and identify gaps. We’ve designed and delivered diversity and anti-racism education programs, engaging Black and Indigenous community members to speak to our employees. Additionally, job descriptions were reviewed to ensure a more inclusive approach to postings. Learn more about SOCAN’s framework for change.
